When our daughter Sophie began speaking my husband and I wanted to keep track of her first words.  Initially we recorded them on our wall calendar but then we decided to look for a keepsake book dedicated to her first words.  This proved more difficult than we expected and it soon became clear that such a thing didn’t seem to exist, so I began to design one myself.

I wanted to make it colourful and fun and to use images that very young children can recognise and say.  Sophie knows we are recording her words and memorable phrases in it and Selene was delighted to receive a book of her own for her first birthday.

My First Words is designed with busy parents in mind.  It works like a wall calendar which hangs from a special hook - to protect the pages from tearing if your child decides to pull it off the wall!

There are fifty-two weekly pages to record a child’s words for the first year that they begin speaking. There will undoubtedly be some hilarious entries for some parents to put into the clouds (as children are renowned for their boundless creativity) but the really wonderful thing about keeping track of first words and memorable phrases is that you will begin to see patterns develop.  Recognising those patterns can really help parents to share in their child’s journey as they learn to communicate through the use of words.

The book makes it very easy to have a record of what your child said, their pronunciation, and the situation in which they said it.  You can record as much or as little as you like. It’s a wonderful way to share with family members who don’t live close enough to see the children all the time.

For musicians and other performers who reluctantly have to spend long hours away from their children, My First Words can help you to share in some of the precious things they say while you are away. This keepsake book is also useful for people in the military or any parent for whom travel to other cities or continents is a necessity.

In years to come your child’s keepsake book will be a time capsule into your family’s life many years in the past.  You and your children will be able to share these memories with their own children and onwards down through the generations.
